Biking to Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte (Days 3 & 4)

Me at the 500 km marker...
Days 3 & 4.

Biking to Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte (2-5 April, 2015).

I arrived at Vigan past 12 midnight and had a hard time looking for a place to stay, as a lot of the nearby inns were all occupied.

I was lucky to get a room at Vigan Metro Inn but I had to shell out more than 1,000 pesos.

I was exhausted from the 200km+ ride. I woke up late the next morning. I had a good breakfast, geared up and started pedaling at around 8 am.

Endomondo Route from Vigan to Bangui, Ilocos Norte

I had to find a vulcanizing shop to repair the punctured tire interior when I had a flat tire last night.

Day 3 was a smooth ride. I was starting to see the seaside on my left and I was aching to dip into those waters. The Bangui windmills were a spectacular site.

I reached Bangui town at around 7 pm I think, and I was tempted to keep going until I reach Pagudpod, but I was unsure if I could find a place to stay there so I decided to check into an inn now and pedal to Pagudpod the next day.

The next day...

Woke up early on Day 4 and proceeded to Pagudpod. It was an easy 20 km ride but it was drizzling on and off that morning.

I reached the town around an hour later. I was surprised to bump into the Bike for Pencils crew on their folding bikes. They also came all the way from Manila, but took a counter-clockwise route, and we ended up meeting each other at Pagudpod. This was the ride I wanted to do for Holy Week, but their ride started on March 30, and I couldn't get off work until April 2. That's how I ended up doing a solo ride instead!

We eventually parted ways. They were going to pedal all the way back to Manila. that left me alone again waiting for the Manila-bound bus to leave.

I went into town and was told that the Manila-bound bus would be leaving in a few hours. That didn't leave me much time to go to the beach and it was still drizzling. So, I decided to take shelter under a nearby hut to pass the time.

Soon enough, the 3 cyclists from yesterday that I met on the road yesterday whizzed by and I decided to tag along with them. We went to the bus terminal again to ask about the bus schedule, and would't you know it, the bus wasn't leaving for another couple of hours. We suddenly had a lot of time left and so what better way to pass the time than to head off towards Saud Beach!

And so we went, and it was a wonderful way to end the journey. The water was incredibly clear and cool.

We packed up at around 3 pm and headed back into town. The bus left at 5 pm and we touched down in Manila at 6 am the next day.

I still had to go to work though, as it was a Monday. When I got home, I had a few hours rest, then got dressed to go to the office.

This was the best Easter break I have had so far. Looking forward to the next adventure!
